WATCH: HEALY & THE DUALITY OF SONGWRITING

We were thrilled to have the ever-evolving Healy as our March 2023 Masterclass host! Listen to him talk about his artistic insight regarding the creation of unique sonic spaces, the magic of Haruki Murakami's prose and balancing the concrete & abstract elements of songwriting.

Performing under only his last name, Healy embodies cardinal themes of his work like self-discovery and non-dualism. His art is a fearless transgression—a tonal gradient with origins in classic and indie rock, soul, and Memphis rap. He released his debut album Subluxe in 2017 in the wake of his second year of medical school. The album now has over 120M+ streams. It’s lead single, “Unwind,” caught the internet on its heels, helping to establish Healy’s fixed presence as a promising multidimensional artist in a mercurial musical climate. His song “Reckless” became a viral sound on TikTok in 2019, and was used in over 1 million videos. After graduating from medical school, Healy relocated to Los Angeles where he completed his sophomore album, ‘Tungsten.’ The project received critical acclaim: Healy was featured on the cover of Spotify’s LOREM playlist, and the standout track “Back on the Fence” was considered one of the best indie songs of 2021. ‘Tungsten’ also garnered the attention and praise of R&B heavyweights SZA and Khalid. Now independent, Healy plans to release his first EP this Spring with collaborations from Lido, Eric Hudson, and Starrah.
